Back to School
School starts up again this week, and as you can see, I’m ready! (Show backpack.) Oh yeah, I’ve
got my pencils…my pencil sharpener…a few notebooks…my hand sanitizer…my lunch bag. I’m
ready!

Do you start school this week? Well, that’s good because there’s a lot that’s important for you to
learn. What are some of the things you learn in school? What subject is your favorite?

Well, you know your Mom and Dad want you to do your best in school, but did you know that God
wants you to do your best in school, too?

Let me read you a couple of scriptures from the Bible. The first is from Proverbs. It says, “Let the
wise listen and add to their learning.” So God wants us to learn, and we learn here in church and
we learn in school.

And let me show you what Paul said in the book of Colossians: “Whatever you do, work at it with
all your heart, as working for the Lord.”

So in everything we do – including school – we should do it with all our heart as if we’re doing it
for God. (Of course, that goes for us parents, too. We should work at our jobs with all our heart as
if we’re working for God.)

So maybe this year you can work especially hard in school. Then you'll not only be making Mom
and Dad happy, you’ll be obeying God, too.

Let’s pray about that: Dear Father, We know You want us to learn as much as we can both here at
church and at school. Help us to do that with all our heart because we’re doing it for You. In
Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
