I was out shopping at the mall the other day, and as I was walking around I noticed some guy
sitting in a chair. He was wearing a red suit with white trim and he had a white beard. I think his
name was…um…oh, yeah, Santa Claus.
Well, I got to thinking: lots of people think Christmas is all about Santa Claus, But who is
Christmas really about? Jesus! So I thought today we should compare Santa to Jesus and see
who’s better. I made a list of some things to think about:
First, you have to wait in line to speak to Santa, but you can speak to Jesus anywhere, anytime.
So which is better, Santa or Jesus? Jesus!
Santa comes once a year, but Jesus is with us always. So which is better?
Santa fills your stockings with goodies, but Jesus supplies all our needs. So which is better?
Santa has a belly like a bowl full of jelly, but Jesus has a heart full of love. Which is better?
Santa puts gifts under the tree, but Jesus is God’s gift to us. Which is better?
Santa is a jolly old elf, but Jesus is King of Kings. Which is better?
Well, it looks to me like Jesus beats Santa in every category. So maybe we should make sure
that Jesus is more important to us than Santa. In fact, Jesus should be more important to us
than anything else.
Let’s pray about that: Heavenly Father, thank you for sending us Jesus. Although he came to
earth as a little baby, he became our savior and he became King of Kings. We thank you in his
holy name. Amen.
(Suggestion: Make a score card by drawing a line down the middle of a piece of poster board.
Put "Santa" on the left side and "Jesus" on the right. Then for each category that Jesus "wins", put
a mark on the right side under his name. Santa, of course won't "win" any, so the score card will
show Jesus, 6: Santa, zero.")
Santa doesn't compare to Jesus
"On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written:
King of Kings and Lord of Lords." Revelation 19:16 (KJV)
